Simple Steps to Become the Obvious Choice for Your Dream Clients

Do you ever feel like you’re doing everything right... and still getting overlooked?
You’re posting on LinkedIn. You’re tweaking your offers. You’re refining your website. But dream clients are not biting.
It’s not your content. It’s not your pricing. It’s your positioning.
In this episode of the Master Your Business Podcast, I unpack the real reason most coaches and consultants stay invisible. I’ll show you how to fix it using a practical 3-step approach that transforms your message and sets you apart in any market.
If you’re a coach, consultant or service provider ready to scale to six or seven figures without screaming for attention, this is the roadmap.
Stop Using Job Titles, Start Using Brand Positioning
Most entrepreneurs describe what they do like they’re at a networking event: “I help people improve their mindset.” Or “I’m a business strategist.”
That’s not positioning. That’s a label. And labels are for soup cans.
Positioning is a decision. It’s about how you want to be perceived. It shapes your message, pricing, and packages. It’s the foundation of demand.
β If your dream client landed on your LinkedIn or your website right now, would they say, holy shit this is exactly what I need in three seconds or less? β - Deirdre Martin
If not, you’re not positioned. You’re blending in. And blending in kills momentum. Just think of a smoothie. When you blend all of one ingredient, you get a clear outcome. You’ll know what colour it will be and how it will taste. But when you blend multiple ingredients, sometimes the smoothie is brown and looks disgusting, even though it might taste fab.
(Want my favourite smoothie recipe? DM me on social media with the words “Smoothie Recipe”!)
Here’s how to fix it:
- Start with the outcome, not the offer
- Use emotional language that signals transformation
- Be clear on who it’s for and who it’s not
This isn’t about sounding clever. It’s about being remembered.
Use the Onlyness Method to Become Uncopyable
Most of your competitors sound the same. That’s not a problem... that’s your opportunity.
Your goal is not to be the best apple in the bowl. It’s to be the orange.
To do that, use the Onlyness Method developed by brand strategy icon Marty Neumeier. It’s simple. It’s powerful. And it works.
Here’s the format:
Real-world example:
My Burnout Breakthrough Program is the only holistic vitality system for high-performing women in their 40s that helps them restore energy, balance hormones, and reclaim their spark... without restrictive diets or 5AM workouts.
That’s Onlyness. It’s:
- Focused
- Felt
- Filtered
Don’t just try to be better. Be different in a way that matters.
Pro tip: Use your clients’ words. Don’t invent jargon. Don’t use internal language. Resonance beats sophistication.
Clarify Your Message Until It Clicks in 15 Words
People don’t buy coaching. They buy clarity. They buy relief. They buy the outcome you help them get.
Your message should be so simple, so direct, your dream client nods and says, “That’s me.”
Here’s a clarity test:
- Who is this for?
- What urgent problem do they have?
- What transformation do they want?
- What makes you the obvious choice?
Now say it in 15 words or less. Out loud. If it sounds like soup... rewrite it.
“So many people try to sound smart and end up confusing their clients. The best copywriting hack? Cut 30% of what you’ve written. Every time.” Deirdre Martin
You can still have a longer version. But your short version is your sharpest tool.
Use it in your LinkedIn headline, your About section, your intro on a discovery call.
