In episode 18 of The Master Your Business Podcast, the self-proclaimed queen of Thought Leadership Publicity Claire Mason is here. We explore the importance of publicity and how it can help you feature your business in publications and podcasts to increase your revenue.

Claire works with CEOs, founders, and business professionals to translate their vision into globally recognised thought leadership so they can establish credibility and expertise in the market, reach new audiences, and build a momentum of professional opportunities. Who wouldn’t benefit from that?!

Publicity is not just for the rich and famous. It's a tool that anyone can use to build their brand and create opportunities for themselves. To help you get started, Claire has shared a list of three actionable steps that you can take to build your publicity and create a strong media presence.

Build a Strong Social Media Presence

[25:23]
Having a strong social media presence is crucial in opening doors for media opportunities. While you do not have to be on every social media platform out there, it is important to be active on the platforms you do use.

The media looks at social media profiles to determine whether or not you are a credible source. Therefore, having a strong profile can give you a better chance of being selected as a guest or source.

Learn The Art Of Pitching

[26:53]
There are numerous resources available online to help you understand the structure of a pitch. If you have the finances to spare, consider working with a publicist to accelerate your learning. Alternatively, there are many free resources online that can help you hone your pitching skills.

Regardless of which method you choose, investing in learning about the pitching process is essential to increase your chances of success.

It’s Time to Start Pitching!

[27:43]
The most important step in building your publicity is to actually start pitching. While it may be nerve-wracking at first, it gets easier with practice. Remember, you may not always hear back from editors or journalists, but don't let that discourage you.

Follow up once and if you still don't get a response, take that story to another editor! Building relationships with the media takes time and effort, but it is well worth it in the end.

And Finally..

Building your publicity and media presence is a key component in growing your business or personal brand. By following these three actionable tips, you can take the first steps towards building strong relationships with the media and increasing your chances of being selected as a guest or source. Don't be afraid to put yourself out there. You never know where it may take you.
